The Flower Shop
The Hillcrest Greenhouses, starting with one greenhouse, was built by Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Clark, in 1924. More green houses were added in 1935.
In 1950, Lewis' son, Wilfred and wife Angie, took over he greenhouse business.
In very early spring, hundreds of flats of bedding plants and vegetables were planted and transplanted for customer homes and gardens. They also harvested tomatoes, cukes and peppers and sold them to people who didn't have gardens.
In December, Christmas trees lined one of the greenhouses and some were flocked to order. A special crew as hired to make evergreen wreaths and roping for Christmas decorating. They always had beautiful poinsettas and Christmas greens.
After Wilfred and Angie sold the greenhouses to the Christensens, they opened a flower and gift shop downtown but they sold it out and several years later in 1971 opened The Flower Shop at 106 W. Main.
The building is a combination store and living quarters. The store houses a beautiful flower shop, where cut flowers, potted plants, terriariums, and artificial flowers and arrangements, as well as wedding and funeral flowers are always available.
The living quarters house the showroom for lawn ornaments, cemetery urns, and pottery, etc. and storage.
In December, Christmas trees line the parking lot and the special crew comes in to make evergreen wreaths and the roping.
Flowers may be wired by Telaflorist for all occasions.
In September of 1976, the Clarks sold their flower shop to one of their employees, Mrs. Blondie (Gladys) VandeKolk and her brother and wife, Lester & Millie Armga. They formed partnership which is active today.Acquisition
