Scope and Content

Historical information on Bennett's Superette for 1976 Bicentennial Celebration in Waupun, WI Bennett's Superette Bennett's Superette began as a corner grocery store on the corner of Main & Fond du Lac Street in October 1953. They purchased the business from Ted Twitchel who had in turn purchased from George and Gladys Meenk in 1951. The location had been a grocery store for about 30 years. Ray and Marian Bennett, with the help of their sons, Ronald and Jeff, operated the store until they bought Homan's grocery stock and a home at 609 E. Main to remodel it into a modern store on the first floor and living quarters upstairs in early 1962. The store literally outgrew the building and so a lot was purchased across the street and a steel structure 40 x 72 was erected in 1968. The store was moved across the street to 612 E. Main where it remains today. William and Colleen Wendelborn purchased Bennett's Superette on October 18, 1976. The couple is from West Bend where they were in the grocery business for seven and a half years.
