Dear Mr. Guelig;
I am sorry this report is so late. I do hope you can still use it.
HISTORY OF THE BIG SISTERS OF WAUPUN, INC.
After a short period of being afflicted with the Fond du Lac Big Sisters, Jayne Hull and Debra Manchester decided to organized a Big Sisters program in Waupun. In April of 1975, the Big Sisters of Waupun, Inc. was legalized.
Currently, there are sixteen working members in our program, consisting of eight big sisters and eight little sisters. We would rather not list the names of these members. We also have a Board of Directors and a Board of Advisors.
The Big Sisters is an organization of volunteer women seeking to help girls between the ages of 5 and 16 who may profit from the friendship of a woman who is not a member of her family. This is obtained on a one to one basis. The Big and Little Sister determine the involvement of the relationship.
We have four activities a year, in which the Big and Little. Sisters join together as a group. Some these activities in the past have been, visits to the Milwaukee Zoo, Halloween party, Christmas party (which is the only required activity), roller skating parties and more.
Beside the four yearly activities, the Big Sister is required to meet with the little sister two hours every two weeks. They may do what ever interests them. They are matched with common likes and dislikes.
We feel that Big Sisters is a growing and needed organization in Waupun and although it is not much of Waupun's past history, it will surely be in the future.
Thank you very much for your time and for giving us this opportunity to tell you a little about Big Sisters of Waupun, Inc.
Sincerely yours,
Debra Manchester and Jayne Hull
