WAUPUN JAYCETTE HISTORY - 1965 - 1976 Monday, November 22, 1965 marked the official beginning of the Waupun Jaycette organization. The sixteen Charter members were Darlene Lee, Darlene Veldboom, Sylvia Hoeppner, Janice Galleske, Sharon Schuster, Miriam Hener, Maraelle Guelzow, Marianne Koch, Lee Anderson, Romona Johannes, Betty McCarthy, Imelda McCarthy, Beverly McGrath, Margo Zerbel, Marilyn Mayer, and Naomi Clark. They met with their husbands at the Hotel Waupun for the Charter Night Dinner. The Fond du Lac Jaycettes Auxiliary was respondible for the extension. Mrs. Wayne Lueptow, Port Washington, State Jaycette President, presented the Chapter. Mrs. Charles Bodmer, Appleton, District Vice-President, conducted a candle lighting installation of officers and members. With Mrs. Ron Anderson (lee) elected the first president of the new group, the members decided that one of their first projects would be assisting the Cerebral Palsy program of Winnebagoland. Other projects were: assisting in the making of uniforms, Christmas Bake Sale, collecting stamps for Central State Hospital Stamp Club, donating two hard cover books and pamphlets to the Waupun Public Library as reference material for Cerebral Palsy, assisting the Jaycees with Winter Carnival, Red Cross Bloodmobile, shoes for Cerebral Palsy victim, rummage sale, assisting the Jaycees with car wash for Convention club, tour of Central State Hospital, and the Fox Lake Correctional Institution, Art Fair concession stand and any other assistance we could give our Jaycee husbands. During the first year the group met in homes of the members. As the group increased in size, the V. F. W. Hall was used. The group met the second Monday of the month, with a hostess to serve refreshments following the meetings. The first year the Waupun Jaycettes won the Milestone Award, given by the State Organization for the outstanding achievement done by a first year chapter. The President for the 1966-67 year was Marianne Koch, some of the same projects were run and some new ones were added. We assisted our Jaycees in many areas, such as: the extending of a Jaycee Chapter in the Fox Lake Correctional Institution, we helped with Waupun's Jr. Miss Pageant, assisted with Mental Health Drive, and helped our Jaycees with Battle of the Bands. We held the first Babysitting Clinic, helped at the Central State 4th of July pinic, and held a pary for retarded children that year. Many Ways and. Means (money-makers) were held that year, one being the selling of Jaycette of the Month Forms to any chapter in the state, this we still do today. Sylvia Hoppner became President for the 1967-68 year, and Waupun hosted its first Regional Meeting in the spring. We also assisted our Jaycees with teen dances, and numerous other projects, like the Jr. Miss Pageant, and Trail Days. We were asked to help with the Health Mobile and the Easter Seal Campaign. We made money at concession stands at both Dog Days and the Central State Warehouse Auction. In 1968-69 Darlene Veldboom was President, and our Jaycettes won the State "Merit Award", for outstanding work as Jaycettes, we also became a Golden Key Chapter. We started such projects as: Patch the Pony, set upna caroling party with the retarded children, and entertained retarded children at camp. We assisted the Jaycees with their monthly newsletters to the members, Jr. Miss Pageant, Winter Carnival, and Trail Days. We made money through projects such as candy sales, rummage sales, our concession stands, style shows, and cookbook sales. We donated a television to the Day Care Center, a radio, phone, viewer to Pella. School. And we sent gift packages to the Vietnam service men. The 1969-70 Jaycette year had. Betsy Hoppner as President. Our group hosted a Regional Tour of Central State Hospital, sent a retarded child to camp for two weeks, and is now meeting at the Waupun Public Library. Julie Brooks became president for the 1970-71 year. Waupun again became a Golden Key Chapter in 1971. By this time it became an annual event to see Jaycettes selling hot dags and ect., at both the Central State Warehouse Auction, and Waupun's Dog Days, for money makers during the summer. In 1971-72 Alyce Dohrman was president, we made up baby layettes for Project Concern, and assisted our Jaycees on their projects. Barb Blau was our president for the 1972-73 year. This year many Jaycettes held Tupperware or Stanley parties for money-makers, the proceeds of each of these going to our chapter. This money came in handy as we gave out "Christmas Donations" to the Dodge County Mental Health Center, Winnebago County Hospital, Pella School, Waupun Christmas Club, Waupun Chapter of the Salvation Army, and the Fond du Lac Mental Health Center. We also again run the Babysitting Clinic, to train girls and boys to be good babysitters. The Jaycettes began the 1973-74 year by electing Diane Michaelis as president. This year we added to our list of projects a Christmas Bazaar, which was held at the State Bank. We also assisted our Jaycees in making pizzas and selling them. Sandy Roe was our president for the 1974-75 year. This marks our 10th anniversary, we invited all the past Jaycee/Jaycette presidents back for a party at the home of Leroy Brooks. This year was also marked by the Jaycees taking over Trail Days, we put in hundreds of hours of work assisting them. For the 1975-76 year Sally Beschta was elected president. This year so far we have helped with the Bloodmobile, we had a Thanksgiving party at the Christian Home, we sponsored a Goodwill Industries Day (in which we filled their semi about 3/4 full), we distributed Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Packets in town, and we again gave out nemerous Christmas donations. Our group has activities just for fun with our Jaycees; and sometimes we get together just by ourselves. We try to have interesting programs at our meetings, and sometimes we have State Jaycette people come in. Our membership is now at 17, and we hope to remain a strong young women's organization in Waupun.
