KNIGHTS OF PYTHIAS
Star and Crescent Lodge No. 95 was organized in December, 1891; was granted a charter on March 9, 1892 and has held the charter without interrruption to the present. There were forty names inscribed on it as charter members.
The order is founded on the tenets of Friendship, Charity and Benevolence. In order to further these tenets, we have sponsored annual balls, minstrel shows and State Pythian Bowling Tournaments. On various other ocassions we have sponsored a Boy Scout Troop, Drum and Bugle Corps, a Lodge Band and various other local projects.
February 19, 1864 is the date that the order was founded. Tt was the first fraternal order to receive a charter from the United States Government under a special act of Congress. Each year during the week of this anniversary, we hold an annual banquet.
At present our roster lists forty members, twelve of them being fifty year members or mere. During the life of our Charter, several hundred names have been listed in our roster; among them were men from all walks of life; civic, business and professional.
