Historical information on Landaal Brothers for 1976 Bicentennial Celebration in Waupun, WI. *Facts are handwritten/found in newspaper and was scanned with mistakes, if any, left uncorrected. Handwritten inf about Landaal Brothers August Meilke & Kluge started the implement shop originally. Henry Landaal bought out Kluge & put in John Landaal in business with Mr. Meilke in 1901. In 1903, Mr. Landaal bought Meilke & became Landaal Bros. with George & John. In 1919, Alfred Galler became associated with Landaals, in a frame building in the former Werner-Harmson store location. In 1910 the present cement block building was built. In 1921, the addition that is now Shaler's was built. In 1940 Montgomery Ward came in there. Landaals bought the land across the street that housed fire house, jail, Fladelands' paint shop, & part of Fuller Goodman to build the new building & to house implements. In 1969 they bought Fuller Goodman's & razed to make the implement parking lot. Dave L. (Chas. Wilkie, Mgr.) John Wendorf are co-owners since 1969 when Mr. Galler retired, after 50 years of active businessman. Implement Dealer in beginning when it became International Harvester. Employees Buy Stock in Landaal Brothers Firm; Deal Completed Friday Sale of stock in Landaal Brothers company to Allan Jaques, David Landaal, and John Wendorf, company employees, has been announced by Alfred Galler, president of the firm. Re-organization transactions, necessitated by the death of the late Charles Landaal, were completed Friday. Mr. Galler, president and treasurer of the firm, will remain in charge of implement sales; Mr. Jaques, vice- president, has been named business manager; Mr. Landaal, secretary, will be in charge of appliances and paint sales; and Mr. Wendorf, assistant secretary, will continue as shop superintendent. The long established Waupun firm has been operated by a member of the Landaal family since 1900, when John H. Landaal purchased Charles Beichel's interest in the firm of Beichel and Klugel, which sold horse drawn mowers, dump rakes, plows and peg tooth harrows in an old building off of Main street, now used as a warehouse by the Shaler company. Mr. Landaal bought out Klugel in 1901 and later on took the late August Mielke in as a partner, whose interest was purchased in 1903 by Mr. Landaal's father, the late H. B. Landaal. In 1904 George J. Landaal bought his father's interest in the firm and in 1910 Landaal Brothers built a new building at 111 East Main street, which was used by the firm until 1940. Part of the building is still owned by George Landaal and is rented to the Waupun National Guard unit. George Landaal purchased John Landaal's interest in the firm in 1925 and operated the business until 1940, when it was sold to his brothers, the late Elmer and Charles Landaal, and his nephew, Mr. Galler, who has been with the firm since 1923. In 1940 Landaal Brothers company moved into its new building at 16 East Main street and in 1949 Elmer Landaal sold his interest to Charles Landaal and Mr. Galler. Mr. Jaques, who joined Landaal Brothers company in 1941, returned to its employ following army duty in 1942 and 1943, and in 1945 was named in charge of the parts department, which is classed as Wisconsin's largest International Harvester parts department. Mr. Wendorf has been shop superintendent since 1949 and has specialized in Diesel service. All three, Galler, Jaques, and Wendorf, are graduates of International Harvester's Central Training school in Chicago. David Landaal, son of the late Charles Landaal, rejoined the firm's employ last January following his return from Europe, where he had been stationed with the army.
