Lauers Food Mart
Three generations of experience and know how have made the name "Lauer" syonymous with quality, service and economy.
The business was started by Matt Lauer in 1917 as a meat market in Plymouth. The shop was expanded to include groceries and in 1951, his son, Francis took over the business.
Ten years later in 1961 Francis brought Lauers to Waupun, buying the store located At 601 W. Main from John Mulder, who had built the building about three years earlier. Wally Mulder was the first manager, followed by Gene Lambert and the present manager, Jerry Rechek.
In 1966 a Lauer's Store was opened in Fond du Lac and in 1971 another one was established in Beaver Dam in a second store is being built in Fond du Lac at the present time.
Today, the third generation of Lauers is taking over. In the fifty-eight years of business Lauers has not lost sight of its reason for success-- its homemade sausage. Still using the original old German receipes Mettwurst, ring balogna, weiners, polish sausage, brats and summer sausage are made in the Fond du Lac store for Lauers exclusive sale.
Fresh meat is received by quarters and halves and cut and ground fresh daily. They carry Wilson and Hillshire brands of sausage and S. C. Shannon of Appleton is their wholesale grocer. Produce from local growers is sold and eggs from the egg farm in Alto are handled.
Lauers has its own baker label and handles Gardners, Mrs. Carters and Dick Brothers bakery besides.
They pride themselves on being a one stop shopping center featuring many coupons offering still lower prices on everyday items.Acquisition
