MoorMan's was started in Big Spring, Kentucky in 1885 by T. R. Moorman, father of the two brothers who built the business... Mr. E. V. (Edgar) and Mr. C. A. (Aaron). The family consisted of the parents, twin daughters and four sons. The girls and their mother sewed 25# cloth bags for the hog remedy ...the boys helped their father mix the product and sell it to farmers living near their home. Two of the sons made the first move from the old homestead and left Kentucky and established the business in Gorin, Missouri about 75 miles west of Quincy in the early 1900's. While there they split up and a younger brother, Mr. C. A., joined the firm. The next move came in 1907 when the plant and its operations were reestablished in Quincy, Illinois. For many years the Quincy location was the only manufacturing facility, there are now three here. There are also four others in the Midwest and Southwest. Each of two wholly owned West Coast subsidiaries has two mills. Our operation in Waupun goes back over a quarter of a century. Bob Baumhardt, the present manager, has outgrown two other Waupun locations. Recent construction of enlarged unloading facilities have greatly expanded the division's potential. The Waupun Truck Service, inc., has also been delivering MoorMan products the last 25 years. We're proud and pleased to be members of the Waupun community. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In July 1946 the Moorman Mfg. Co. of Quincy Illinois established its first car parry operated wareouse in Wisconsin. It was established in Waupun Wi. on south Watertown st. in the back portion of Zubke's garage which is now owned by Edmunds Bus Service. That fall a Quonset building 100X40 was constructed and stock was moved into it to service the customers in Wisconsin. For 15 years this operation grew until the Quonset building was no longer big enough to handle our requirements. Then Mr. George McBride Sr. was contracted to build us a building near his M & M Foundry. He put us up a building 120 feet by 60 feet. This was constructed on Maxon St. After 9 years of op-ration here we outgrew this building. In 1969 we acquired 10 acres in the Industrial area along the Milwaukee railroad tracks. In March of 1970 we moved into brand new building constructed for us by Westra Construction Co. 194 feet by 80 feet. At this time Bulk feed delivery was also added to our delivery system. In 1972 an addition was added to this building. 73 feet was added for more storage space. Then in 1973 150 feet expansion was added to the south end of the building also extending our rail siding along the whole building. Also at this time a new bulk unloading system was added to the end of the building. This was an underground conveyor system for hopper cars and hoper trailers. In 1975 Bulk storage Bins and scale house and the unloading leg was lengthend to make room for 240 tons storage space for bulk feed. We have been growing for the past 29 years that we have been here in Waupun and we anticipate the same growth in the future. We like it here in Wappun.
