Riel's Karpet Korner
Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Riel operate their floor covering service at 22 East Main Street.
The store located next to Landaal Brothers and formerly the Schultz Radio store, was opened in May 1972 and the Riel's offered sales and installation of carpeting and vinyl floor coverings and draperies.
Mr. Riel had worked for Rompre's in floor covering for eight years before he moved to Madison to operate his own store. Eight years later, he moved back to Waupun. (his home town) to open his store on East Main.
Two years later (1974) he added a General Electric appliance line including Television and service and took his brother Wally in as a partner. Wally had been employed at Meenk's for the past fourteen years.
Wilbert bought the corner store salesroom in 1975, which was the office of Kine Feed Mill, and remodeled it into a floor covering store. Now, he and his wife run the enlarged store and call it Riel's Karpet Korner and the appliances have been discontinued.Acquisition
