WATCHING GEESE EVERY AUTUMN
By June Kelly
Copper red sun, hovering over October's horizon,
Shining unshadowed on wild wings
Sweeping skies at day's end.
Geese graze and gorge in harvested fields
And return at dusk to marshland refuge,
Fat and tired and safe.
(What inner wisdom draws them back to sheltered haven?)
Bodies sculptured and flight patterns
Designed by God,
Wild geese free fall out of the heavens,
And the wingspread natures of man and bird interlock.
