Description

Former Union Church. From a clipping found from about 1947 in the 1910 Waupun City Directory. Destroyed by fire on Nov. 19, 1916, this church was one of Waupun's largest and most beautiful at that time. Known as the Union Church, it was located on Baptist Hill, where the City Hall now stands (Forest and Main streets). The church was built in 1899, shortly after the Free Will Baptist, Disciple and Baptist churches united, and became known as the Union Church. It contained a pipe organ, the first in Waupun, which was a gift of William and E.J. Lindsay of Milwaukee, formerly of Waupun. After the burning of the church the Union Church united with the Congregational Church. Title to the property was retained until it was purchased by the City of Waupun. Taken from The Waupun Leader-News, Waupun, Wis. 1947/1948. Picture is from the Greystone Club Galleries.
