Some facts were not known so there are blanck spaces. Post Office The Waupun Post Office was built in 1933 during the depression year. It had remained in much the same shape until 1964, when the outside was sand blasted. Interior remodeling was planned in 1964, but due to post office deficits it didn't get started until 1976. Postmaster, Joseph Thompson, came from Madison in 1974 and planted spring flowering bulbs & annual flowers in a border along the well-trimmed evergreens and set out 2 flower boxes on either side of the doors. In 1976, the $79,000 remodeling project started; the small pane windows were replaced by aluminum frames with clear inner glass & solar bronze outer glass, to help keep the building warmer in winter & cooler in summer. The interior was re-arranged to a more convenient floor plan. The "money order" window was removed and the service window moved from the center to one end, and portioned off with a glass divider, so it can be locked after service hours. The lock boxes remain the same and are always available. A new heating & air-conditioning system was installed. The parking lot was also re-surfaced. Jeeps were purchased for the walking mail carriers in _______, when the city routes were enlarged as the city grows. Myron Kastein was Postmaster from_________until he retired in __________.
