Weinheimers Floral
Weinheimers first greenhouse was built in 1945 on Bly Street.
It was made of storm windows and scrap lumber. In 1948, Weinheimers built a home at 110 Fox Lake Road and the greenhouse was moved there. A small shop and garage was built next to it.
In a few years a larger greenhouse was necessary so the little greenhouse was moved to the rear of the lot and used as a cool house. A new professional greenhouse was built next to the shop. A boiler room was built and also addition to the shop. Finally a foundation for the second greenhouse was laid. A tornado in July 1957 wrecked 75% of the greenhouse roof. This was re-built, the second greenhouse completed and improvements were made continuously.
Mr. Weinheimer was a guard at Central State and Worked part time in the Greenhouse with his wife, Carol. They were both active in Community affairs- they were the first Scott's Lawn Products Dealer, did lawn and garden work, gifts for the Memorial Hospital and planted bedding and vegetable plants, were Burpee Seed promoters, were a FTD Florist and did wedding and funeral flowers. "Weinheimer's Floral" grew from a small "dream" to a growing business with the help of loyal friends, and industrious and talented employees.
Their inspiration was the building of the Waupun Memorial Hospital and the many patients who would appreciate flowers.
Mrs. Weinheimer gave many tours for school children every spring. When artificial flowers were first in vogue she gave many demonstrations on arranging them. But her pride and joy was
her orchid plant collection to which they added new varieties yearly.
Waupun Florist
Chris and. Charmaine Christensen came to Waupun in 1967 from Illinois where they had been in the wholesale flower business. They bought the Marvin Weinheimer's green house and florist business at 110 Fox Lake Road on July 1, 1967, where they have remained ever since.
The Christensen's have two daughters, Holly and Becky. Becky has been active in the business and has demonstrated flower arranenents to various groups.
Then Chris and Charmaie moved to Waupun, Chris's father and step mother, Victor and Marie Christensen took over the Hillcrest Greenhouse on E. Franklin Street, from Wilfred Clarks.
