Handwritten Hotel Account. Author unknown...perhaps Martha Gunnison. First name of old hotel built by Seymour Wilcox 1844. The Old Stand. This sign was an oval sign and hung over the workshop of Thurston Wilcox for over 50 years. Thurston Wilcox was the first child of Seymour and Lucy (Newton) Wilcox. It had many names: Beaumont Hotel, City Hotel. The hotel is located in the middle of the block on the north side of the street (East Main Street) between Madison and Fond du Lac streets. About 1920/1 they remodeled into four store buildings, new fronts and part of the original building is still there Nov. 17, 1972. Description of old hotel: The offices, bar room and sample room were located in the west end. A large hall ran the full length of the building, leading to the dining room to the rear. A public living room and a private living room and bedroom for the family to live in was located in the west end of the building. There were eleven bedrooms upstairs and an attic over the whole building also furnished with beds. The bestern part of the hotel was built 112 (presumably years ago). November 17, 1972.
