First name: The Old Stand 1844. The name of the Exchange Hotel built by Seymour Wilcox in 1844 (the one now being used by Craft Center) was The Old Stand, 1st name. The long oval sign hung over the door of Uncle Thurston Wilcoxes work shop for fifty years. The hotel had several names. The above Old Stand, the Exchange in 1874, the Beaumont Hotel, and probably others. ? In 1858, A. Harger was the proprietor, later 1863 August Spanagel became proprietor. It was sold to Rowland Carrington in about 1846/1847--purchased from Seymour Wilcox. Was also called CIty Hotel by Spanagel. No date, no author (probably Martha Gunnison).
