Temperance Societies: Typewritten, yellowed brittle paper. No date, no author. I. O. of G. T. (Good Templars) -- The first Lodge of this order in Waupun was insituted Sept. 25, 1858 and was named "Waupun Lodge." The first meeting was held at the residence of Wm. Euen and was called to order by G.W.C.T. Dr. T. J. Patchen of Fond du Lac. Lodge meetings held in the Odd Fellows Hall, just west of Main Street. At the meeting on November 1, 1858, the name of the lodge was changed to "Prison City, No. 96." February 1, 1859, some difficulty having occurred, a portion of the membership withdrew, and with the consent of the Lodge, formed a new one, "Welcome Lodge, No. 112." During the following summer, both Lodges were very prosperous, working harmoniously together. The membership of the two societies was about three hundred, Prison City having a majority....reference made to Civil War influence on admission and veterans. Advance Temple of Honor, No. 21. Secret Temperance Society, organized October 9, 1875, with eleven charter members. In June, 1876, occurred one of the greatest temperance revivals even known in Waupun or vicinity, during which 100 members were admitted to the Temple in the week beginning June 16. In the following July, the Lodge reached the height of its strength in point of numbers, containing at that time 275 members in good standing. A.O.U.W. Order of the Ancient Order of United Workmen -- purely benevolent. Organized Feb. 3, 1879, with ten charter members. Teleulah Lodge, No. 33, I.O.O.F. Organized in Waupun by Deputy Grand Master Lowther, Dec. 25, 1848, with five charter members. Built their first hall in 1852 at the cost of $600. In 1871, built their present hall. Back of sheet: Waupun Lodge, No. 48, A.F. & A.M. After about a year's preliminaries, the Lodge was organized August 12, 1853.
