Photograph, Corrections, Wisconsin State Prison, Prison Disturbance, 1944. Black and white photo of a group of people gathered at the outside wall of the State Prison at Waupun, Wis. where sit-down strikes, burning of mattresses and sheets and threats of rioting caused inmates to be confined to their cells. Small groups of Waupun citizens lined the prison gates trying to get a glimpse of the activity within.
A date of January 18, 1944 is stamped on the information attached to the back of this photo.
