'70s a time of unrest - Wisconsin was far from serene during the 1970s. It was the scene of protests. Some involved prisoners and Indians. In July, 1976, inmates at the State Prison at Waupun (above) took 14 people hostage in the prison's industries building. The prisoners were demanding changes in rules and education and recreatn programs. The hostages were released and the uprising ended after 11 hours.
