Description

Photograph, Corrections, Wisconsin State Prison, Law Library. Black and white photo from Waupun Correctional Institution Information from newspaper clipping taped to back of photo: Librarian Kathy Dayton helped Troy Marks and Jeffery Harris work in the law library. Inmates at the Waupun Correctional Institution generally would rather work than be idle, and their activities take many forms. Some have been employed in work teams to help tear down the prison's old schoolhouse. The work began last summer after educational programs were moved to another building that had been used as a warehouse. Inmates who are considered creative can spend leisure time in activities encouraged by the prison's Hobby Shop and arts and crafts classes. Some inmates who are trying to solve their legal problems have used idle time to study law and prepare paralegal briefs and writs for themselves and for others. - Journal Photos by Lynn Howell
