Letter to DanielleScope and Content
One page fiction by June Kelly, a letter to Danielle, her then 7 yr. old great-grand daughter.
June explains in the handwritten notation at the top of the page, the she wrote this after a visit to Mason, Ohio where "Patty and her family live."
It is more like a short story that the author places "God" taking the airplane to take a walk through Ohio.
July 11, 1990
My Dear Danielle,
One day last week, God said to himself, "Well, today I think I will take a walk around Ohio to see what the people have done in that area since the last time I was there."
So God put on his long white robe and his shiny, silvery, sparkly halo and started out for the Pearly Gates Airport. Since God can go everywhere without a ticket, he got right on a huge, white, bird-shaped plane named the Hallelujah One.
A beautiful angel was the flight attendant. Her uniform was colored heavenly blue, and her white wings were freshly preened in honor of her prestigious passenger. She settled God in his seat and made him comfortable.
Soon a voice came on the radio saying, "This is your pilot, St. Peter, speaking. I know God doesn't need safety belts, but rules are rules, God, so fasten your seat belt! We have been cleared for lift off. Our destination is the Cincinnati Air Port."
A few minutes later, God looked out the window and saw the Ohio River, which looked brown from that height. It snaked back and forth along the whole state of Ohio. "Hmmm...I don't remember making so many bends in that river,: he said to himself.
Just then the pilot said, "We have been cleared for landing. Check your safety belt!" Then God got off the airplane and started his walk. He walked over the hills and through the valleys. Along the roads, highways and freeways. He walked through the woods and on the hiking trails in the parks. He walked around the front yard of Grandma and Grandpa, Patty and Ladd McCarnan, and then went over to Great-grandma-and-grandpa McCarnan's house. Here he walked all the way through their big back yard to the natural pond.
He saw some owls sitting in the branches of a fallen tree. On the edge of the pond was a deer, cooling himself in the water. On the other side of the pond, a duck was swimming around. The birds were singing sweet music.
He hated to leave, but it was starting to get dark and he decided that he better get back home to Heaven.
When he turned around, he noticed that his halo was a little loose and as he walked, the shining, silvery sparklies were falling oft from the halo. He saw them all over, everywhere he had walked
that day. They looked like little bugs flying around, lighting up every few moments like little fires or flashes of lightning. As he left, he heard a little girl say, "Will one of you two grandmas help me catch these fireflies?!"Acquisition
