by June Kelly
Le Swan, symbol of grace and beauty
Stately lyric of art and song,
Whence come ye here to farmer's Flooded field?
Think ye this thy Walden Pond?
Aye, food and drink; what yield
Thee more 'cept heaven's reflection
At thy door?
Have no fear from fowler's eye --
Just looks of love from passers by
And gasps of breath to see thee fly.
Thy long-necked winging
Sets the human heart a-singing.
Light ye gently down
A mere few miles from our town,
As ye stop along thy flight,
And preen thy angel feathers white.
Stay, we pray, as long as need.
Be our guest for rest and feed,
And when thou leave,
We give thee nod.
Finish thy journey, thy way be blest,
Thou wild spirit, who canst bring
The joy of heaven to our breast
And even wrest
From Him -- the smile of God.Acquisition
