The Old School Bell

Scope and Content

Poem written by Robert Gorsuch, date unknown. Printed with a picture of the school bell that has been removed and placed at the Waupun High School complex on East Lincoln St. The Old School Bell By Robert Gorsuch Bells are made to be rung But there you are Silent Unneeded Enshrined on a pile of bricks A memorial to a memory That will fade with the passing generation Once your raucous clamor Brought panic to a laggard schoolboy Struggling to avoid the embarrassment Of being tardy With each aching breath a prayer That it was only the "first bell" But certain in his heart it wasn't And he was late again Keep silent, old bell Your work is done
