Orientation and Leadership Training February, 1966
The time will soon be upon us to hold election of the new officers. Are the girls in your chapter fully informed about 1) the projects and functions of your local, 2) the duties of each of your officers and standing chairmen and 3) the state organization - officers, chairmen and projects ???
I sure hope so! The year is half over, and whether your girls are all running for local or state offices and chairmenships or not, they still should all have a complete knowledge of the whole set-up. We need well informed members.
Please bear in mind that orientation is not a "once a year" thing. Try to devote a few minutes at each meeting to the explanation of your projects and functions to the new members and guests attending. They do not want to sit there and hear you discussing projects etc., without knowing what you are talking about. Also, we've got to sell ourselves. If they don't know about us, why should they join? Some of our chapters bring little booklets or mimeograph a few pages to give to all new members and guests as they come to the meetings. Have you thought about this?? Think it would be a good idea? It needn't be anything elaborate, but have the facts down so that the girls can refer to them.
Enclosed is a "Jaycette Glossary of Terms" similar to those handed out by Sheboygan Falls and Sheboygan. If you can, I hope your chapter will use the ideas and will try something along the same line. Even this list alone explains pretty much what we're all about, without bogging them down with long explanations.
Best wishes for you who will be running in the Spring elections. Set your sights and aims high. . . it's worth it.
