Easter Star related letter sent August 9, 2002. 401 Bonita St. Safford, AZ 85546 August 9, 2002 Grand Chapter of Wisconsin, OES Attn: Pat Jameson 36275 Sunset Dr. Dousman, WI 53118-9349 Dear Sister Pat, The enclosed gavel was given to me by my neighbor, Marie Weeks Kynaston, who passed away on Sept 5, 1998 at the age of 101. This gavel belonged to Marie's mother, Lillian Mae Wood Weeks, of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Will also enclose a copy of the obituary from Marie's passing that gives a few details. This shows that Lillian Mae Wood Weeks passed away in 1953. Am not sure how accurate this is. I am a member of Arcadia Chapter #9, Safford, AZ, and a Past Matron of Morenci Chapter # 39. Morenci Chapter merged with a Chapter in Duncan, AZ. After a few years they merged with Arcadia Chapter in Safford. This Chapter will celebrate their 100th anniversary in November this year. Smith Jane Hudman Smith OBITUARY Fond du Lac Reporter Friday, Sept. 25, 1998 Marie Weeks Kynaston, 101, of Safford, AZ, a native of Fond du Lac, died Sept. 5, 1998. Ms Kynaston retired from retail sales and worked at Garfinkels Dept. Store, Wash. DC, and Lions Men's Store in San Diego, CA. She was graduated from Grafton Hall, Fond du Lac, in 1915, and attended Lawrence College in Appleton, WI, prior to her marriage to Geoffrey Kynaston, of Wash., DC, in 1917. She loved to travel and lived in such diverse areas as Iowa, St. Louis, MO, Indianapolis, IN, Houston, TX, Oak Park, IL, Wash.,DC, Los Angeles, CA, San Diego, CA, and the last seven years, Safford, AZ. She spent the previous two summers visiting her much beloved Fond du Lac and surrounding area. She grew up on North Park Ave. in the family home, which still stands. Many delightful summer vacations were spent at Lake de Neveu at the family cottage. She was a member of the Fond du Lac Chapter of the Daughter's of the American Revolution, (DAR). She was a student of languages in school, taking German, Spanish and French, in addition to music and played the piano, pipe organ, and harp. She was predeceased by her sister Alice Weeks who died soon after birth in 1893, brother, Thomas S. Weeks, whom served with distinction in WWI and one of the original founders of the Oshkosh Flying Club, 1930, father, Verner M. Weeks, a prominent, longtime businessman in Fond du Lac, 1940, mother, Lillian Wood Weeks, 1953, sister, Jessie Weeks Hinton, 1993, and brother, Alfred T. Weeks, 1996. Marie was a caregiver to ailing family members throughout her life. She also adopted a daughter, the former Diana Peterson of Arpin, WI, and took over and raised her brother Alfred's adopted daughter, the former Elinor Miller of Waupun , WI, when Alfred lost his wife. In addition to the love of travel, Marie was a meticulous housekeeper, excellent cook, enjoyed sewing, reading, completing crossword puzzles, playing cards and entertaining. Memorial Service scheduled for 10:00AM, Monday, Sept. 28, at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, Fond du Lac, Dean, Rev. Fr. James Cavanaugh officiating. Interment at Riezi Cemetery following services. P. S. Maries adopted daughter, Diane Peterson Woods passed away in Stafford, AZ about a year ago. She was married to Harold (Hack) Woods.
