Cemetery, In Memoriam for Edith Lenore Jones and Catherine Sarah HookerDescription
Documentary Handkerchief: In Memoriam for Edith Lenore Jones and Catherine Sarah Hooker, who both died, along with Mrs. Hanora Dasey, on Tuesday, September 14, 1886. The girls were out with their friend, Mrs. Dasey, to pick wildflowers by the shore of the Rock River. Mrs. Dasey promised not to take the girls near the railroad but they used the railroad bridge to cross over to the other side of the river. While they were crossing, a train came onto the bridge, killing them all instantly. No age is given for Mrs. Dasey. Edith Lenore Jones was the daughter of Charles and Clara F. Jones, aged 5 years, 6 months and 15 days. Catherine Sarah Hooker was the daughter of C. E. and Josie [Josephine] L. Hooker, aged 4 years, 11 months and 23 days [both mother and daughter are buried together in Forest Mound Cemetery]. "They were lovely and pleasant in their lives and in death were not parted." A long poem and details of the accident are described on both sides of the handkerchief, written by "J." No name or date given for the donation of this artifcact.Acquisition
