Mr. Walter Riel was a Sergeant with the 38th Photo Reconnaissance Squadron, 13th Air Force from 1942-1946. The Riel Collection is a series of photos that were collected by Mr. Riel during this time. This is a photo taken in Randolph of Mrs. Kay (Vander Woude) Riel holding their son Walter, Jr. Walter, Sr. was oversees. It was two weeks before Walter knew his son had been born and his buddies knew first. Walter, Sr. didn't see his son until he was a year old.Acquisition
