Description

TPhotograph, Church, Norwegian Lutheran. he exterior of the Norwegian Lutheran Church on Church Road, northeast of Waupun. The following is typed on the back of the picture: "Sometimes when one takes the wrong road one finds interesting and unexpected subjects, like we did recently enroute on assignment from Oakfield to Waupun. Taking the wrong turn on a sparsely-traveled road at the north edge of Horicon Marsh, and less than 20 miles from Mayville, we came upon this beautiful little white church nestled among beautiful trees inside a cemetery lot. According to Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Helgeson, caretakers of the Norwegian Lutheran Church build in 1855, the church is now used but once a year. We couldn't resist making some photographs of this neat little structure which was used much by the early settlers of the area. Circuit-rider pastors conducted services in the church weekly until 1920. Now Mr. and Mrs. Helgeson take good care of the grounds and the church and keep the building in repair. Mrs. Helegson is seen at the door." Picture is dated September 1974 and has three stamps, "Edgar G. Mueller, Photographer, Mayville, Wisconsin 53050", "The Mayville News, Mayville, Wis. 53050" and "Mayville Historical Society, INC. 12 N. German St., P. O. Box 82, Mayville, WI 53050." From these stamps we are led to believe that this was for a newspaper article in the "Mayville News" sometime about September 1967. Mr. Mueller was a well know photographer from Mayville that took many interesting pictures of Mayville, Waupun, and the Horicon Marsh.
