DOWNTOWN RESOURCE GUIDE
As the emphasis on Waupun's downtown development continues, it is important for business and building owners to acquaint themselves with the many resources available to them. In short, no one expects you to go it alone! We're all a team — here to help each other make Waupun's downtown appealing to everyone who lives, works, plays or is just driving through our city. Here is a list of programs available:
Design Assistant Grant
The Design Assistance Grant may be utilized in conjunction with the Building Improvement Program as well as the Facade Improvement Program. Property owners and businesses within the redevelopment area of the City of Waupun are eligible for up to $500 in matching grant funds for design work for the exterior of their buildings. As a matching grant program, the CDA will reimburse the property owner for up to 50% of the expense, up to a maximum of $500. The CDA reserves the right under this program to exceed the maximum grant amount of $500 on a case-by-case basis. All grants will be awarded to eligible applicants while funds are available. Eligible activities include design work through a qualified individual or organization. The design must meet the Design Guidelines as set forth for the Central Business District. Building Improvement Program
Property owners and businesses within the redevelopment area of the City of Waupun are eligible for up to $5,000.00 in matching grant funds for improvements made to their facility. As a matching grant program, the Community Development Authority (CDA) will reimburse the property owner for up to 50% of the expense, up to a maximum of $5,000. The CDA reserves the right under this program to exceed the maximum grant amount of $5,000 on a case-by-case basis. All grants will be awarded to eligible applicants while funds are available. Applicants are eligible for only one grant award within a five (5) year time frame, unless otherwise approved by the CDA. Eligible activities include facade renovations, signage, awnings, code enforcement, structural repair, building infrastructure (e.g. plumbing, electrical, roofing, cabling, etc.), exterior lighting, leasehold improvements (requires consent of property owner). Recruitment & Expansion Funds
The Recruitment & Expansion Fund (REF) is limited to funding commercial based businesses in the redevelopment area of the City of Waupun. These businesses cannot be home based. There is up to a $2,000 grant limit per business. New start-up businesses and expanding businesses, provided they are adding a significant new product line or service. Also the relocation of an existing business outside of the CDA district to the District is eligible. The REF program is a reimbursement program. The grantee will be reimbursed for eligible, pre-approved grant related expenses. Eligible activities include rent, architecture and engineering costs, purchase of furniture, fixtures and equipment and inventory. Facade Improvement Program
Property owners and businesses within Business Improvement District (BID) are eligible for up to $2,000 in matching grant funds for improvements made to their facade. As a matching grant program, the BID will reimburse the property owner for up to 50% of the expense, up to a maximum of $2,000. All grants will be awarded to eligible applicants while funds are available. Applicants are eligible for one grant award per year. Eligible activities include façade renovations, signage, awnings and exterior lighting. Anyone interested in an application for this program should stop by Waupun City Hall, 201 E. Main Street.
