PRISON CITY CIGAR WORKS
Among the various pursuits which diversify the interest of Waupun, none deserve more prominent mention than that represented by Mr. Maxson, as being one furnishing remunerative employment to a number of skilled artisans and in all ways forming an important this thriving city.
It was established eighteen years ago (1874) by a firm of which Mr. Maxson was a co-partner. Two years later he succeeded to it alone. It has become well known and under a liberal and progressive policy the scope of operations have yearly been steadily enlarged. The trade territory now not only covers this vicinity but reaches many points throughout the state. Mr. Maxson enjoys perfect facilities for manufacturing and his business operations now give employment to eight cigar makers.
As a manufacturer of cigars he has sidulously endeavored to maintain the quality of his brands and to make an honest cigar, worthy of the good opinion of smokers. In this he seems to have succeeded and has established for himself a most reliable reputation as their continued popularity shows. He gives the business his close personal supervision. The following are the leading brands made by him: "Rose Bud"- "Liberty"- and "King and Queen of the Turf", all staples with the trade and in constantly increasing demand.
Mr Maxson is a native of this city and has passed his whole life here, where he is highly esteemed in both trade and social circles. In the very building of his business he has manifested the best order of exterior ability, indefatigable enterprise and industry which have not failed in bearing their legitimate results in this field of commerce. Mr. Maxson belongs to the K. of P. and United Workmen.
