Description

Ambulance and Fire Dept. Honored/Fresh Strawberries from the Action Shopper June 16, 2010 Brooks Ambulance, Waupun Fire Dept. to be honored for response to '09 accident Hello Waupun, - A wonderful recognition is on its way for Brooks Ambulance, Inc. of Waupun and the Waupun Fire Department. Together they are being awarded the "Scene Call of the year Award" by the Flight for Life Organization/ Fond du Lac Base. Brooks Ambulance and the Waupun Fire Department responded to a charter bus roll-over accident that took place on Aug. 4, 2009. The charter bus was filled with Special Olympians who were heading home from a competition they won. Jayce Commo, the Outreach coordinator/PIO for Flight for Life, said that this award recognizes the very best in patient care, scene management, and expert efforts to calls they are involved in. This accident occurred very early in the morning (3 a.m.), there were 22 injured occupants in the bus with special needs, and many of the patients were from out of the state. This call illustrates the importance of training, teamwork, communication, scene coordination and incident management. The public is invited to the awards ceremony which will be held on June 23, at the Waupun Community Center Parking lot. Flight for Life will be landing in the parking lot across from the community center at 7 p.m. for the public to see and the awards presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. If the weather is not permitting, this event will be rescheduled at a later date. Congratulations to Brooks Ambulance and the Waupun Fire Department! You make our community proud of the services you provide in very difficult conditions. Two weeks ago I had the opportunity to meet with foruth grade students from Rock River Intermediate School. In the past, I had talked to Sue Krause's fourth grade classes at Jefferson School. This year was a bit more of a challenge, but a rewarding one. All of the fourth grade class (approx. 150) students met in the lecture hall where, thanks to Trista Steinbach, one of our administrative assistants, I was able to have a short PowerPoint presentation to show the students while I talked about city government. My thanks to the fourth grade teachers as well as all of the students, you asked very good questions and were a great bunch to meet with. Enjoy your upcoming summer break!! Until next week...Mayor Jodi Fresh strawberries from Mischler's Russell Mason, age 12, picked fresh sweet strawberries at Mischler's Berry Farm on Sunday, June 13. Mason was with his grandparents, Jim and Ruth DeYoung, from Waupun. Mischler's is located at W10044 Church Rd., off of Oak Center Road or north of Hwy. 49, east of Waupun. Photo by: Annette Boelk
