Animal Shelter News News From the Waupun Area Animal Shelter In 2004, a few dedicated people had a dream of opening a safe and comfortable place for lost and unwanted dogs and cats in Waupun. They made contacts within the community and in January 2005 had their first meeting to form what would become the Waupun Area Animal Shelter Inc. The first year was spent organizing, writing by-laws, a mission statement, philosophy and fundraising. In 2006, they filed for a 501 (c)3 status (non-profit), did lots of fundraising events, promoted public relations and secured land for the future building. In 2007, they were so very fortunate to be the project for the 2007-2008 Waupun High School Building Trades Class. The group continues to work very hard at fundraising, community involvement and securing support from local businesses. As of today, everyone is excited to be putting the finishing touches on the interior of the shelter and landscaping in preparation for the open house on October 18 from 1pm to 4pm. Come join in celebrating the Waupun Area Animal Shelter Inc., future of providing care for animals afflicted by neglect abandonment and to enhance the lives of animals and people through education, adoption and compassion.
