Scope and Content

WISCONSIN COUNCIL FOR LOCAL HISTORY December 9, 1963 Miss Edith Scott, President Waupun Historical Society 109 Olmstead Street Waupun, Wisconsin 53963 Dear Miss Scott: The minutes of the meetings of the Wisconsin Council for Local History and the Advisory Committee which met during the Annual Institute for Local History at Madison on September 28 are enclosed. I wish to call special attention to the report of the Council's Regional and Local Historic Harkers committee. What we are striving for through this committee is a Council guide book on markers which will include criteria for the selection and evaluation of markers and instructional directions for their erection and maintenance. We also want to find out if the societies in the Council want coordination of state, regional and local marker projects. Such coordination, we feel, will guarantee the high standards we all desire. It could also lead to a system of recognition of high standards through fixity permanent seals of approval on all markers recorded in a state marker registry. The Regional and Local Historic Markers committee is now in the process of drafting suggestions and recommendations for your consideration. In the near future copies of these recommendations will be mailed to you from Madison. Please allow me to suggest that you appoint your own markers committee to study these recommendations. If you will do this, it will be easier for us to discuss them at the next regional convention. Our reactions will be included in the next report the marker committee makes to the Advisory Committee. Sincerely yours, Mrs. Norbert Secora Regional Representative Box 53, Route 3, Berlin Enclosures
