Dear Mr. Fletcher:
As a major step in the efforts of the State Historical Society to improve its services to its affiliated historical societies and museums the Board of Curators established its Local History Policy Committee. This committee, working with our affiliates individually and through the Wisconsin Council for Local History, produced a local history policy statement on inter-society relationships and services by the State Society. A copy of this report was mailed to you (or to your predecessor) last fall.
We are now at the point where we must compile fairly accurate data on the specific kinds of projects and activities for which the 96 affiliates (including your own organization) need subsidy and extension services. The enclosed questionnaire contains the kind of questions we will have to answer when we appeal for funds to increase our local history services. After we have compiled the answers to the 96 questionnaires practically all guess work
will be eliminated as we continue to develop plans for the future.
If it is at all possible for you to do so, please complete and return the questionnaire by July 1 so that Mr. William J. Schereck of our Office of Local History can tabulate the forms before the Local History Policy Committee meets again.
If there is anything you wish to add that is not included in the questionnaire, please do so. In fact we hope that you will add any comments, suggestions or complaints about the State Society's services that you may have and attach them to the survey when you return it.
Sincerely Yours,
Leslie H. Fishel, Jr.Acquisition
