Scope and Content

Berlin, Wisconsin March 6, 1964 Mr. Eugene Westra 115 W. Main Street Waupun, Wisconsin Dear Mr. Westra: It 'is very gratifying to know that our visit to you last November was of help and that you are making use of some of our suggestions. At the meeting and now in your letter .you have given me many good ideas for us to use. Mutual exchange is what we are striving for and is what was behind the setting up of the regions into a State Council. In regard to the letter asking for suggestions for nominating curators for the State Society, I too, wish our area were better represented. We have only two, Mr. Banta and Mr. Gehrke. I know Mr. G. as he is exofficio a member of the Advisory Committee, having been president of the Ripon historical Society at some time. This actually gives us two members on the Advisory Committee, the regional representative who changes every two years and any curator who has been a local society president. I have not been able to come up with any suggestion. Of course, I would like to see more women on the list. I think Miss Wood would be qualified, but one or two objestions come to mind. One is that she drives only a short distance, otherwise always needs a way to get wherever she needs to go. At her age, it would not be wise to subject her to the uncertainties of such a problem. Perhaps by the time we are asked again for suggestions we will have had time to think about someone. We get asked every year! Being a member of the State Historical Society limits it, because it is quite easy to note some of our own outstanding historians but they are usually members of the local society only and not the State. Glad to hear you will be well represented at the April 4th meeting. I will send out cards later. I have run out of our letter head paper and envelopes and will have to wait until I go to the li brary to get more, as we deep our supply there. Sincerely,
