ICONOGRAPHY, FILM, and RECORDED SOUND
This study room and its facilities are provided for the use of researchers who wish to use the collections of graphic materials in the care of this section.
Please remember that these collections are unique and fregile . Many are especially subject to abrasion. Almost all of the photographic images, negative and positive, consist of an emulsion layer on paper, celluloid or glass. The acid and oil in fingerprints, perspiration or foods and beverages can weaken or destroy these materials. Age and chemical action can make them brittle and very susceptible to cracking and flaking. This is one of the few collections of its kind and its continued existence depends on the care it is given. Please handle all materials carefully.
HANDLING THE COLLECTIONS
1. A staff member will demonstrate the proper technique for handling the materials.
2. Wash your hands frequently. (There are washrooms immediately outside the Archives-Manuscripts Reading Room.)
3. Handle material, individually, by the edges or margins. Keep items flat on the table surface. Avoid leaning on items.
4. Open only one folder at a time and return all material to original folders. Keep materials in an orderly arrangement. DO NOT REFILE FOLDERS OR INDIVIDUAL ITEMS.
