Scope and Content

(From talk on Photography by George Talbot of Wisconsin Historical Society) Keep pictures cool, dry, separated from sources of contamination and in a steady environment. Treat copies the same way. Do not stick things on pictures. Clarity is an intrinsic virtue in captions, we are not concerned with neatness in itself. Colors will fade some under light, especially sunlight or any bright light. Organizing Picture Collection - Spend time organizing pictures and making them available to people, not in setting up card files. Write what group the picture comes from. Make files for each group and refer to where they can be found. Negative collections - put this number on the back of the pictures copied. Write with soft lead pencil (#1).
