Dear Mr. Mattes:
I enjoyed talking with you over the phone this morning, and I look forward to meeting you. As I mentioned in our telephone conversation, the State Historical Society of Wisconsin has received a grant from the Wisconsin Humanities Committee to interview people about chores that were done by hand. For this project we are particularly interested in chores done on the farm and in the kitchen, and which needed some skill with the hands.
A few examples are: butchering pigs and other animals; making sausages, rendering lard, smoking meats, and other meat processing jobs; cutting, bundling, shocking and stacking grain and planting, cutting, shocking, and husking corn.
Thank you for agreeing to meet with me at your home on Friday, September 27th, at 9:30 a.m. During our discussion, which should last about an hour and a half to two hours, I won't
be tape recording, just talking informally with you. Eventually we hope to incorporate some of what we learn during the project into the interpretation program at Old World Wisconsin.
I appreciate your assistance with this project very much. If you have any questions about this letter or the project, please phone me at 608/262-8178. Meanwhile, I look forward to seeing you on Friday, September 27th, at 9:30.
Sincerely,
Betty Kilsdonk
