ADDITIONAL NOTE TO JULY 1970 REPORT
On July 22 we discontinued putting chlorine in the water at a rate of 100 pounds per day. On July 25 the beach, sand in shallow area and the walls were covered with an extreme amount of algae.
On July 25, 300 pounds of chlorine was put in the water. This additional amount of chlorine eliminated all of the algae in two and one-half hours. Chlorine will now be added at the rate of 100 pounds per day. (Dependent upon tests.)
Once every two weeks we will add 300 pounds of Chlorine for an overkill effect. Chlorine is an algicide and it is not as dangerous to the human body as Copper Sulphate.
We have ordered 200 pounds of Copper Sulphate for the unattached algae in the water and this will be used in very small doses.
The Sodium Hypochlorite is a supersaturate chlorine solution and will be used to kill algae and mold which is growing in the sand.
We have found a new supplier for our chemical products which has reduced the cost of chlorine from $39 to $33 per 100 pounds, as Well as an approximate reduction of 20% on all other chemicals. This company also pays the shipping cost. This should save the city approximately 1,000 over the course of an operating season.
