Scope and Content

Waupun DAR Centennial 1902-2002 Regent Mrs. Catherine Bliefnick Waupun was established in 1939 by Yankee settlers from along the East coast so it was not surprising that many had relatives who had served. in the Revolution. Mrs. Elizabeth Hinckley was accepted as a Member at large just 5 years after the ladies were organized in Washington, DC. She was asked by the Wisconsin State Regent to start a Waupun chapter. Thirteen eligible ladies, attended the first meeting. They were very enthusiastic and accepted offices for one year as to give every one a chance to serve. They began raising funds for national and local projects which included helping to establish the new Carnegie Library. They gave a marble bust of washington at a cost of $250. , a large clock, electric lights and show-case to start a museum in the basement. Articles of clothing were sent to Ellis Island, flags and literature were given to new citizens at the Dodge and Fond du Lac court house and funds were sent to help purchase the large bronze doors at the new Continental Hall in Washington, DC. When World War I began they answered the call from Washington. They sent surgical supplies, knitting, blankets, bought War Bonds and adopted a French orphan to whom they sent money for his support for many years. They donated to all the National DAR projects thru the years. They marked. graves for Revolutinary War soldiers and Daughters. Also placed a marker at the site of the First House in Waupun and a plaque at a desecrated Pioneer Cemtery that contains 140 Waupun pioneers and veterans of the Civil War and War of 1812. They gave $1,000 to the Waupun Hospital and to Marsh Haven Education building, donate to fire works and local Memorial Day parades. We have 26 members with only 8 who actively participate. Mrs. Minnie Reifsnider Drummy member Waupun Chapter since 1948.
