Description

During nice weather the front steps of the George Smith house (more recently c.2020 Pei Lin's) in Wayland Center served as a favorite gathering place for this group, whose members carefully studied the passing scene. Except for the gentleman with the broken straw hat deeply absorbed in his newspaper, the others have been identified: (L to R) Andy Eagan, Arthur "Stubby" Atwood (Express agent at RR), Daniel Graham, Maurice (Graham's brother-in-law and RR gate keeper), and Alfred Alward. Note their Panama hats, and the relative formality of their step-sitting attire. Unexplained is the single shoe, on the walk at the bottom of the steps.
