Description

Waterworks, pipes beside 1 Old Sudbury Rd., view looking south. J.J. Ducey Company of Framingham, MA was awarded the contract to extend the water system in the north end of Wayland in 1930. William R. ad Mary P. Dudley built the house ca. 1848 on land purchased in 1834 from Calvin Rice. Their daughter L. Anna Dudley, a teacher who lived to be over 100 years old, lived there until 1908 when the house was purchased by Abbie L. and E. Frederick Stevens. The Stevens in turn sold to Nellie E. Foley in 1928. Unfortunately, Miss Foley lost the house to a foreclosure action in 1932. It was sold the same month to Donald and Mary Morrell. Just a year later the bank foreclosed again on the property. Almost ten years later the bank sold to Ada M. Britten and Frederick A. Britten in 1942. Ada Britten sells to James A. Blanchard II and his wife June P. in 1946. Ten years later Helen Thibodeau Barrows buys the house. Mrs. Barrows includes her daughter Jacqueline B. Scanlan, Administrative Assistant for the Town of Wayland, in ownership of the property. Mrs. Scanlan alters the deed to include her husband, Edward P. and her son, Paul E. Scanlan in 1973. David S. Davenport buys the property in 1980. In 1989 the house is sold to Christopher and Vicki V. S. LaFarge.
