Context

Marcus Swift was born in Palmry, Wayne County, New York in June 23, 1793. He was a Reverend of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He moved to Michigan in 1825. He bought land in Nankin Township. In 1827 he was elected supervisor and later was appointed Justice of the peace by President Jackson until Michigan became a state. His son, George W. Swift became a judge.
