Ted HarperContext
Ted Harper. He was a prominent figure skater and a grandson of George H. Stellwagen. Herbert "Ted" Harper II (1914-1973) was born in Wayne and began competing professionally in skating, ending up at the 1937 US figure skating championships. While there he was discovered by Sonja Henie, then the best figure skater in the world. She took him to Hollywood where he was a skating stunt man in the movies "Thin Ice" (1937) and "Second Fiddle" (1939). He married a girl from Henie's skating troupe and they had 3 children. Ted later divorced and had a second wife, with whom he's buried at Glenwood Cemetery.Cataloged By
