In the winter months, once the water froze, blocks were cut from the ice and transported to warehouses to be kept insulated for use year round. Until the spread of home refrigeration by the 1930's [sic], many homes used ice boxes, which kept food cold with large ice blocks delivered directly to the door. / Wenham Lake Ice company 4056655" The same information is also printed in French and Spanish.
