Description

Child's sampler worked in cross stitch in silk thread on a jute background. It shows off the stitcher's skill at three kinds of alphabets, an improving verse with stylized ornaments at either side and a scene two buildings, one looks rather church-like, two trees, a fence and a very large bird. The maker's name, age and the date the sampler was finished are also included, "Wrought by Sarah E. Gerrish aged 12 years 1839."
