A table-top balance scale, probably used in a store, wood base, metal balance mechanism, removable marble top, and two four-armed metal tray holders (one for the items to be weighed, the other for the counterbalancing weights); one side of the box has a round opening with a glass cover that reveals two arrows that indicate whether the two trays are balanced; there are inspection seals, one near the opening that indicates whether the two sides are balanced, and one on the top, the seal next to the arrows reads "Wenham [center] Weights and Measures Dept. / Do Not Detach / Sealed May 20, 1804 [unreadable signature]," the other seal is printed with black ink on red paper and reads "Wenham [center] Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Dept. of Weights and Measures / Do Not Detach."Collection
