Pewter spoon, made from spoon mold, P/P Object #1159AB. Spoon has an elongated bowl (1.625" x 2.5") and a rounded top with a 2.5" narrow ridge running from the top. The spoon is as it came from the mold; the excess pewter has not been cut off. No maker's mark.
During the week of May 17 to May 22, 1971, a young pewtersmith, Elias Brewster Withington, demonstrated the casting of early pewter spoons at the Winslow Shop of the Wenham Museum. He was concluding his spring research project as a senior at Governor Dummer Academy in Byfield, MA. This spoon is the result of his demonstration.
