Description

Blue linen "Hooverette" dress with white piqué collar and removable cuffs. According to records, this dress was worn while canning with the Wenham Village Improvement Society during World War I. It is heavily stained. The dress is a wraparound style which has a self-fabric belt which threads through openings at the side seams and can be wrapped either way. There are two large patch pockets on the skirt. There are four home-made small buttonholes in the skirt, designed to accept the shanks of removable buttons. These were probably added to keep the skirt closed.
