Newbell Niles Puckett, who was a Mississippian folklorist, went through the Mississippi Delta conducting research and documenting African American folklore practices in the 1920s and ‘30s. This photographic copy provides an example of early hoodoo practitioners and users. The healer in the photo is wearing nutmeg on thread around his neck, which he believed would provide him with good health and protection.Made/Created
