This is a Pot-Bellied Stove located in the last home of Sleepy John Estes. It was made by the King Stove and Range Company between 1905 and 1920. It can burn on either wood or coal and warms the air in the house by heating the cast iron stove. On winter days, “Sleepy” John and his family opened the square door in the middle with the word “SUN” on it. The heat is regulated by adjusting the flow of air to the fire by turning the small wheel on the lower rectangular door. Smoke from the stove is flowed through a pipe at the top and went outside the house. When the fire was hot, the family could cook meals on the large flared top of the stove.Made/Created
